Help Our Teachers, Help Our Children
Teachers shouldn’t have to fund classrooms out of their own pockets. You can help us lessen their burden

Teachers in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School (CHCCS) system typically spend hundreds of their own dollars furnishing their classrooms with basic essentials.
Every August since 2008, the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club (ECHR), in conjunction with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation (PSF), has sought to lessen this burden on teachers by providing free classroom supplies to them. Since its inception, supplies valued at over $625,000 have been donated to local teachers at the ECHR Teacher Supply Store. Despite these efforts, teachers keep having to dig deeper and deeper into their own pockets.
Our children are our greatest treasure.
Their education is of utmost importance, but state funding has not kept pace with rising expenses and increased numbers of students. Teachers should not be called upon to furnish classroom necessities at their expense. But the reality is that most teachers spend hundreds of their own dollars every school year to make certain our children have everything they need.

A Teacher Supply Store (TSS) goal was reached for the first time in 2024 when shopping vouchers were given to every teacher in the CHCCS system
rather than just half the entire cohort of teachers. But to do so necessitated a decrease in the amount given to each teacher. We want desperately to raise the amount to past levels, or even higher. Another goal is to provide multiple Supply Stores each year. As appreciated as our August events kicking off the school year are, those supplies do not come close to lasting the entire school year.
